Case Study - Westlink M7
Problem
Westlink M7 is the company which manages the M7 section of the Sydney orbital network. The stretch of road under Westlink M7 management covers 40km through one of Sydney’s fastest growing commercial and residential areas. Westlink M7 wanted to know what impact their business is having in the environment in terms of carbon emissions and also how they could reduce their emissions. Westlink also wanted to know what regulatory risks may affect their business under a carbon constrained economy and additionally be able to provide their shareholders, employees and customers with an answer to the question "what are you doing to reduce your carbon emissions".
The Solution
Westlink contracted Sustainable Harvest's consultancy services to measure their carbon emissions for the 2007 financial year. From their emissions inventory and onsite analysis we were able to determine what was responsible for the emissions and how this can be managed more effectively. We were then asked to formulate a strategy to reduce Westlink M7 emissions and overall resource consumption for the Eastern Creek Control Centre.
The Outcome
Sustainable Harvest presented the ;roadmap towards sustainability' to Westlink M7's key employees and a supportive upper management. Our strategy was structured to allow the company to prioritise our solutions using Sustainable Harvest Group's financial summary methodology and determine a staged implementation of the solutions.
